The Cougars Roller Hockey Club has set the standard for Roller Hockey Clubs in the Mid-Atlantic region.  In just two short years, the parents of the club have built on the original program formed by the Skater's Choice staff and turned into the model for other parent-run clubs.  How do we know this?  Not only have other clubs asked how we did it, some have actually used our club documents word for word!  We are flattered that other clubs want to emulate us and we are determined to stay on the leading edge.  Our CougarMania tournament events have been hugely successful and promise to become even better.

We typically have our tryout at the end of October.. Practice begins in early November.  The season ends with regional (May-June) or national (June-July) competition.

Our rink time currently allows us to have each team practice once during the week (one early evening each week) and once on the weekend (early on either Saturday or Sunday).

Tournaments are held on weekends.  Each age group is usually run in one session that may last from 5-8 hours, during which the team will play 3-5 games.  While teams may compete anywhere, most of our teams compete at rinks within an hour's drive.  While teams can also compete as frequently as they like, most of our teams enter an average of 2 tournaments a month.  We are also attempting to form a travel hockey league that would involve weekly single games.

The cost for a full season is currently $675 plus tournament fees.  This includes practice time from November  to June,  and all administrative fees.  Tournament fees range from $40-$60 depending on the type of tournament and number of players entered. Insurance fees are seperate.

It doesn't hurt!  The reality is that many of our players developed their skills in the house leagues at Skater's Choice.  Players do need to have mastered basic skating, puck handling and team skills.  Our coaching staff is willing and able to help you develop from there.

Like all team activities, roller hockey relies on teammates developing the ability to work together.  Therefore, regular attendance at practice is essential.  Our practice times, however, are mostly at times that do not conflict with most other activities.  Our weekend competitions, though time consuming, are usually scheduled far enough in advance to allow time to work out conflicts.
